We have some of the best co-operatives in the country in our region, which is why I got the Government to establish the new $14 million Farm Co-operatives Centre of Excellence here in Lismore.
It has already proved itself to be a great success, providing expert advice to tens of thousands of farmers and farming groups around the country.
The Centre has already received 66 funding applications for projects to further strengthen the co-operative sector in Australia. Later this month, projects worth $4 million will be announced.
Its new website www.farmingtogether.com.au has provided information to more than 16,000 farmers and 7000 have signed up for the monthly newsletter.

I announced funding of almost $100,000 for alcohol and drug, and mental health programs for our indigenous community this week.
The program will be run by Rekindling the Spirit which has also taken over the management of the Aboriginal medical service, Jullums.

Karen recently attended the Nimbin Hospital Auxiliary’s fashion parade and afternoon tea fundraiser.
She said it was a great event, with money raised to purchase medical equipment for the hospital.
I would like to thank Maureen and the team who do such a great job for our community.
