Activists targeting our red meat industry.
Shadow Minister for Trade and Tourism, the Hon Kevin Hogan MP has called on the Labor government to back our farmers and red meat industry.
“It is concerning to see reports this week that the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is questioning the ethicalness of the red meat industry. Dietary guidelines should be about a healthy diet.
“Australia exported a record A$17.08 billion worth of beef and sheep meat for the 12 months ending November 2023. This is because Australia is world-renowned for agricultural products that are clean, green, safe, affordable, sustainable, and ethical.” Mr Hogan said.
“Australia’s has a population of 26 million people, it’s disappointing to continue seeing the ideological and activist views of a minority being used to coerce, manipulate and influence the decision making of the broader community.”
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is due to update its guidelines by the end of 2026.
