I spoke about our Order of Australia Medal recipients in Parliament last week.
It is always good to acknowledge the great work members of our community do to make our community even better.
I would like to congratulate John Barnes from Alstonville who received an OAM for his services to the Northern Rivers community, retired Commander Submarine Rod Fayle who was acknowledged for his contributions to the macadamia industry and former Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell.

More than 125 young people in our community now have jobs under the ‘Hire’ element of the Australian Government’s Youth Jobs PaTH (Prepare-Trial-Hire) program.
This is a big win for those young people and a win for local businesses.
I encourage more local business owners to consider taking advantage of the Youth Bonus wage subsidy of up to $10,000 to assist taking on extra staff to help grow their business.

I was invited to speak with Year 8 students at Lismore High this week.
They asked some great questions about how the parliamentary system works.
