I announced another major contract awarded to deliver a section of the Pacific Highway upgrade between Woolgoolga and Ballina.
Seymour Whyte Limited—Ostwald Brothers joint venture will deliver a 35-kilometre section of the upgrade.
This is great news for our community. This pipeline of contract awards means there are about 2,500 direct jobs and 7,500 indirect jobs expected to be supported across the Woolgoolga to Ballina section by the middle of next year.
Most of the road building, bridges, piling and concrete supply contracts have now been awarded for the 155-kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade and we are on track to open to traffic by 2020.

‘Invictus’ means unconquered. The Invictus Games are for wounded service men and women.
We have twp members of our community representing our country in Canada next month: Nathan Parker and Jamie Tanner from Lismore.
I acknowledged and wished them well in Parliament today.

Australia Day is a wonderful day of celebration for our country.
It is a day we acknowledge the First Australians and their wonderful history and spiritual connection to our land. It is also a day we celebrate the successful multicultural society we are.
Wrongs have been done, but the day is a celebration of all that we have to be grateful for.
For these reasons I believe we should continue celebrating it on January 26.
