Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan has welcomed the latest ABS data that shows unemployment has fallen in all towns across the Northern Rivers, with a net 1164 full-time jobs created since the Government was elected in September 2013.
“This is wonderful news for our community and those looking for work,” he said.
“The unemployment rate in Evans Head has almost halved, falling from 8% to 4.5%. In Goonellabah the rate has fallen from 6.4% to 4.4%, Lismore has fallen from 10.4% to 7.9%, Casino has fallen from 9.9% to 7.5% and Kyogle from 8.6% to 6.4%.”
The figures are from the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ most recent report on Small Area Labour Markets for the March 2018 quarter.
“This is a great result that is about to get even better. I recently announced $17 million in Government grants to kick-start nine major projects that will create another 1000 local jobs,” Mr Hogan said.
“In terms of wages alone, these projects will bring in an additional $50 million every year into our community that will be spent locally, creating and securing even more jobs.
“The strong jobs growth in our towns and villages are part of a national picture which has seen record growth with more than 400,000 jobs created last year.”
