Fuel tax cut needed to help local families and businesses
Families and small businesses across our region are being hit hard by rising fuel prices, and urgent action is needed to ease the pressure.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan is calling on the Labor Government to immediately halve the fuel excise for three months.
“This is real cost of living relief that can be delivered straight away, a practical step that would cut around 25 cents per litre,” Mr Hogan said.
“People in our region rely on their cars more than most, for work, school and everyday life. When fuel goes up, everything goes up.”
Mr Hogan said the same reduction in the Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge should also be provided.
“Transport costs flow through to everything – groceries, services and small business operations,” he said. “This would take immediate pressure off households and help keep local businesses moving.”
Mr Hogan suggested the proposal be fully funded by getting rid of some of Labor’s net zero 2050 policies, including:
- Ending the Electric Car Discount.
- Reversing the Government’s green hydrogen subsidies and tax credits.
- Pausing and strengthening integrity controls around the Home Battery Scheme.
“This is a sensible, targeted measure that provides relief now, not months down the track,” he said. “Australians shouldn’t have to carry the full weight of a global fuel shock.”
“I’ll always back practical solutions that help people in our community.”
