Federal Member for Page, Kevin Hogan has welcomed the review into the Working Holiday Makers Tax.
“I have previously raised concerns about the impact of tax changes for Working Holiday Makers. Many of our regions farms rely on Backpackers, and it is important we don’t reduce our ability to attract these workers.” Kevin Hogan said.
This review has occurred after concerns were raised by Kevin Hogan and other Regional MP’s about the impact of the 2015 budget measure on tax arrangements for Working Holiday Makers. Key concerns were about ensuring Australia maintained a balanced and equitable approach to the tax status for workers on visas.
The Tourism Minister will now work with the Ministers for Agriculture, Employment, Immigration, Regional Development, Industry, Treasury and the Prime Minister to prepare a new proposal.
Any proposed changes from the review will take effect on July 1.
