Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to invest in a fourth round of its Mobile Black Spot Programme to further improve coverage across our region.
“This announcement is great news for those living, working and travelling through our community,” he said.
“Since 2013, we have delivered improved coverage for more than 100 of the 140 blackspots identified in our community.
“We have already co-invested nearly $20 million in our community to build new base stations to fix these black spots.
“This new round will enable more people in our community to take advantage of the social and economic benefits that 21st century communications can provide.
“I encourage local residents, businesses and community organisations to engage with their state and local governments through the consultation process, to improve coverage outcomes for our community.”
The new round will call for applications from mobile carriers within the coming months, taking input from state, territory and local governments, as well as businesses, community organisations and emergency services.
The competitive selection process for Round Four of the programme is expected to commence in the second half of 2018.
