New Italy was severely impacted by bushfires in the past 12 months. Damage was done to infrastructure and large amounts of vegetation in the area.
Kevin Hogan, Federal Member for Page, today joined Richmond Valley Mayor Robert Mustow to announce the allocation of funding to two groups in New Italy.
“$100,000 will be provided to the New Italy Museum to install a new water tank, clear burnt vegetation and to construct new kitchen facilities,” Mr Hogan said.
“With burnt vegetation removed and new facilities in place, the museum will better serve the community. The new upgrades will allow for events and functions to held for locals.”
“Another $50,000 will be allocated to the New Italy Mountain Bike Trails to rebuild the infrastructure destroyed by the bushfires.”
Lindsay Warton, President of the New Italy Mountain Bike Trails group said;
“The park will bring mountain bike riders from all over Australia and the upgrades will be great for families locally as well.”“These are excellent projects selected by the Richmond Valley Council, I congratulate them for their work so far” Mr Hogan concluded.
Richmond Valley Council received a $1.4 million Federal Government grant to assist with bushfire recovery. Council have this to rebuild important community infrastructure.
