Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan has urged people to heed the warnings of the SES and keep away from Lismore CBD, South Lismore and North Lismore as flood waters are expected to overtop the levee early Friday morning.
“If river levels reach predicted heights, this will be a major event,” he said.
“Once the levee overtops, flood waters will flow down the Browns Creek floodway into the basin area, flooding central Lismore.
“I’m urging people to stay out of areas that are flooding and allow the SES to do their job. Also please keep in contact with your neighbours, particularly those who are elderly.
“If you are advised by an SES officer to evacuate, please do so. Before you leave, secure outside items, turn off the power and water, and remember to take essential medicines and clothes with you.
“My office, like many other businesses, has lifted everything of the floor. Please everyone follow your flood management plan and stay safe.”
