Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today toured the Science Faculties of Southern Cross University with Assistant Minister for Science Karen Andrews.
“Southern Cross University has a great role to play in promoting the sciences within our community,” Kevin Hogan said.
“So far, this Government has invested almost $7 million into research projects at Southern Cross.”
Recently funded projects include:
- Almost $3 million for nine collaborative research projects with industry partners;
- $1.7 million for research under the Australian Research Council (Future Fellowship’s) and the Discovery Early childhood Career research Awards;
- $1.2 million for three research projects, including ground-breaking research of plastics and biochemistry; and
- Almost $700,000 from the Discovery Early childhood Career Research Award.
“These grants allow for the University to work with industry partners to continue innovation across our region,” Mr Hogan said.
Minister Andrews said Southern Cross University was a leader in the field of Geo-Science.“I’m here today to look at what Southern Cross is doing and discuss ways that the Federal Government can help them even more,” she said.
The Federal Government has also funded two Southern Cross University projects ($821,000 and $140,000) to prepare students from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend university.
