Ballina Byron Gateway Airport creates an enormous amount of jobs in our region. It is important to continue to support the airport and improve access for those using it.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today officially turned the first sod on the $10 million Airport Boulevard project.
“These new works include the construction of Airport Boulevard, extension of and connection to Boeing Ave, connection to North Creek Road and construction of three roundabouts,” Mr Hogan said.
“Once complete, the road will provide an impressive entrance to the airport and will unlock new land for the expansion of the Southern Cross Industrial Estate.”
“It is expected this project will support 36 jobs during construction, and up to 500 further jobs could be created as a result of new businesses being established.”
Ballina Shire Council Mayor David Wright said this project is important as it supports jobs in our region.
“Every single person who arrives here, especially tourists, support jobs in our community,” Cr Wright said.
“This is exciting, not only for Ballina, but for the entire Northern Rivers.”
“The project will increase availability and access to industrial land and provide opportunities to attract and retain investment in the local community.”
The Federal Government committed $3 million towards this project and Ballina Shire Council will provide the remaining $6.7 million.
