Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan was joined by the Minister for the Arts Senator Mitch Fifield to announce a $5000 grant to LightnUp.
The grant will help the volunteer organisation to renovate its new lantern-making headquarters in Lismore.
“More than 30,000 people come into the heart of Lismore every year to watch LightnUp’s iconic Lantern Parade which has more than 3000 participates,” Mr Hogan said.
“Renovating LightnUp’s new premises will enable our Lantern Parade volunteers to move out of the leaky, unsafe shed they currently occupy.
“This grant will mean the new premises will comply with council regulations and the Australian Building Code, including installing fire house reels, disabled access to toilets and fire-retardant gyprock on stairwells and windows.”
“Projects under the Stronger Communities Program, like this one, are selected by a community consultation committee that assist with identifying potential projects,” Mr Hogan said.
