Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan is astonished there is not a bigger focus on flood mitigation in today’s announcement.
“The $50 million in projects announced today are part of the $150 million in funding I announced just after the flooding event,” Mr Hogan said.
“This funding was intended to be spent on shovel-ready flood mitigation measures, ahead of the extensive CSIRO study to be released next year.”
“The first engineering flood mitigation recommendation for our region, is ranked 18th in the final overall ranked eligible project list – this is astounding.”
“Upgrading water pump stations, evacuation routes, and flood infrastructure are all important, and I welcome the funding – however they do not reduce the height of a flood.”
“I hope the remaining $100 million will have a greater focus on the engineering flood mitigation options contained within the interim report, which was released today.”
“Businesses and residents are making big decisions right now. They need to see some mitigation work happening, that makes them safe.”
“Engineering solutions to flood mitigation provides our community with hope, and make us feel safe.”
“Making not just our homes safer, but the CBD, farms, our road network, industrial estates and villages.”
