Bungabbee Road at Bentley is an important access route for local farming families. Due to the extremely poor condition of the single-lane timber bridge, a load limit of 2 tonnes has been placed on the bridge.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan has announced $300,000 to fix the bridge, with Lismore City Council and Richmond Valley also putting in $150,000 each.
“This funding will be used to raise the level of bridge, improving its flood immunity, sightline, and alignment,” Mr Hogan said.
“It is a terrific outcome for our community.”
“The load limit has been detrimental to the families along this road as they have had no heavy vehicle access.”
“Our communities have struggled through bushfires, drought and now COVID-19, these projects are important to get our local economy going again.”
“This funding is designed to support councils deliver priority infrastructure projects to support jobs and help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
This funding has been allocated through the Round 5 of the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
