Our community has faced tough and emotional times over the past weeks with drought and fires. This good news story today is from Summerland Farm.
They employ over 100 people in our community with a disability. They came to me last year with a proposal to upgrade their facility at Alstonville. This was to ensure the future of the farm and increase its attractiveness as a tourist destination.
Today I turned the sod for the $6 million expansion of Summerland Farm. $4.5million is from a Federal Government Grant. The upgrade will mean they employ 35 more people and provide an exciting new experience for visitors. It will include a new farmyard animal barn, farm-themed play and educational attractions and equipment. Improved retail experience and improve their servicing of the macadamia industry.
