Federal member for Page Kevin Hogan today congratulated Southern Cross University for receiving $698,734 from the Australian Government to fund two new research projects to boost the research and innovation sector.
Funding for these projects has been awarded under the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) Major Grants for 2016.
“This announcement is great news for the Northern Rivers,” Mr Hogan said.
“These grants will enable some of Australia’s best researchers to make exciting and important discoveries that will benefit our nation, its people and economy.”
The grants are under two ARC schemes. SCU received $393,434 through the Discovery Early Career Researchers Award (DECRA) scheme and $305,300 under the Discovery Projects scheme.
“A strong investment in high-quality research will drive innovation, secure the jobs of the future, improve the health of our community, protect our environment and ensure our researchers can compete on the international stage,” Mr Hogan said.
