Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery Programme has today been distributed to five councils across the Northern Rivers to assist with local road construction and maintenance.
“This is the Federal Government making good on election promises by continuing to support programmes that deliver funding exactly where it’s needed based on local knowledge,” he said.
Mr Hogan said five councils across the Northern Rivers had received their latest quarterly payment under the Roads to Recovery programme totalling $3,166,172, including:
- Clarence Valley Council – $953,619
- Kyogle Council – $601,853
- Lismore City Council – $758421
- Richmond Valley Council – $811,841
- Ballina Shire Council – $40,438
“Importantly, the Roads to Recovery programme is set up for councils to make road spending decisions based on local needs – without interference from Canberra – to ensure that funding is truly directed to where it is most needed in the community,” Mr Hogan said.
“The Government has almost tripled funding under this programme last last financial year and this financial year, which is a tremendous windfall for much-needed local road works.”
This funding is on top of the $2 million Mr Hogan promised during the election campaign to repair and maintain crucial local roads across the Northern Rivers.
