Nymboida was devastated by the recent bushfires. More than 80 homes were destroyed, and livelihoods were shattered. It is an incredibly resilient community.
Clarence Valley Council received over $1.4 million in Federal Government grants to assist with bushfire recovery. Council has used this to upgrade important community assets.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan recently joined Clarence Valley Council Mayor Jim Simmons to officially announce funding to upgrade Nymboida Community Hall.
Mr Hogan said the funds were provided to Council to assist with the local-led recovery efforts.
“Community halls are a crucial part of communities, especially in Nymboida,” Mr Hogan said.
“The recent bushfires devastated this community and it is important we rebuild and upgrade together.”
“I would like to congratulate Clarence Valley Council on the way they have distributed the money.”
“This is on top of funding Council received to replace damaged infrastructure.”
Cr Simmons said it was a priority of Council to ensure recovery was undertaken in the timeliest manner possible.
“Council’s priority is to rapidly rebuild stronger and more resilient communities, focussing on the health and wellbeing of our people, as well as the repair of property and restoration of the environment,” Cr Simmons said.
Initial works could include:
- Sealing roofing, external facades and insulation
- Supplementing water tanks and supply/store fitting connections
- Providing, leafless gutters, and metal fly screens/barriers
- Generator set connections
- Amenities improvements
