The Mental Health Support Group is a registered charity that provides practical support for people with mental health issues. They distribute donated white goods, bedding and furniture for those in need.
Due to increasing demand, they needed to build a new shed to store the donated furniture.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said he secured funding to make this happen.
“It is so important to support organisations who support our most vulnerable community,” Mr Hogan said.
“I secured almost $14,000 to put towards this project. It is great to officially open this today.”
“This new shed provides short term storage for donated furniture, before it is distributed to homes in our community.”
“The Mental Health Support Group also helps domestic violence victims, homeless individuals, refugees, veterans and Aboriginal people.”
“This organisation is run exclusively by volunteers who are helping the mentally ill become connected to their community and aid recovery.”
The Federal Government provided $13,941 through Stronger Communities Programme, The Lions Trust donated $15,000, and Lennox Head Lions Club donated $500.
