Minister Farrell’s comments on China unacceptable
Comments made today on Sky News by the Trade Minister, Don Farrell that the previous government’s poor language resulted in the Chinese Government’s imposition of the current trade impediments is completely unacceptable, Shadow Minister for Trade and Tourism, the Hon Kevin Hogan MP said.
“What is an example of the ‘poor language’ he refers to?,” Mr Hogan said.
“China, under its ‘wolf-warrior’ diplomacy put 14 conditions on Australia to normalise the relationship. This was unreasonable.
“Surely, he believes Australia has the right to defend its national security and sovereignty.
“We should be able discuss our differences diplomatically and without the imposition of punitive and unfair trade barriers.
“Don is a decent guy but his remark today does not reflect well on him.”
