Member for Page Kevin Hogan has expressed disappointment at the announcement by Metgasco that they will resume gas exploration at the Rosella E01 site in Bentley.
“I believe very strongly that this decision flies in the face of community opinion” Mr Hogan said.
“The majority of people in the Northern Rivers believe, like me, that lingering concerns about land and water contamination and the industrialisation of farmland have not been adequately addressed by the industry.”
Mr Hogan said that the intensive nature of agriculture in the region and the importance of the local environment to tourism and quality of life made the Northern Rivers particularly unsuitable for CSG development.
“The opponents of coal seam gas are sometimes branded as a noisy minority. In this community they are not. They’re fathers, mothers, professionals, farmers and senior citizens who have unanswered questions about the industry and are therefore uncomfortable about it developing here at present.
“I have organised a meeting next week with Peter Henderson, the CEO of Metgasco to convey my belief that there is currently not community support for CSG within the Northern Rivers.”
Kevin …… When will we see another media release about the protectors of Bentley. We seek a political solution rather than mining by martial law. We need you to speak out on behalf of the people of Page that are opposed to the NSW Govt forcing its unwanted gas mining on the community by use of 1oo’s of riot police. Please speak out as promised crossing the floor wont be enough we want to see your actions now to protect the safety of the people of Page and the future of the Northern Rivers tourist and farming industry.
Thank you, Kevin for speaking out against mining in our region. You Northern Rivers community are doing our best to make it heard that we do not want mining in our area. Our concerns are real, and should not be ignored. As our political representative we need your voice, so thank you for what you are doing to help us, and I urge you to do more. To the majority of Northern Rivers residents, it’s considered VITAL that we stop Metgasco, and any other mining company, from mining on the Northern Rivers.
Kevin this is our artisan water source we are gambling with Please do your best
P.s Might be worth looking at sink holes -Frackin also
As a tour operator in the area and a fourth generation local I am deeply concerned at what is proposed by Metgasco in the Northern rivers region. This area is renowned for is diverse culture and rich rural and farming communities. It is disappointing that the concerns of the majority of communities who live in this region continue to be ignored and I urge you to continue to fight on behalf of the 98% who voted for this area to be CSG free.
Hi Kevin,
Don’t let those mob dodge questions. Push hard. Drive ’em out. Keep up the good work guys. They can’t pull the wool over our eyes anymore, we won’t stand for it.
Thanks to all that are out in the fields, putting their lives on hold for the lives of our family and friends future.
KEEP THEM OUT OF THE CLARANCE VALLEY TOO
Thanks for standing up for our community Kevin . This industry has been around long enough to see it has harmfull effects on water and farmland and we’v seen the effects it has had on people in the states we don’t want metgasco in our region they have no simpathy to the peoples lives that have been destroyd because of there selfish actions and no compassion towards future generations please approach this meeting with a stiff upper lip
Kevin, Bentley in not only the hotspot of environmental policy in Australia it is also is also a dest case for reality democracey. Other countries are watching Bentley to see how our democratic process stands up in the light of big industry putting pressure on federal and state governments. Local governments seem a much better reflection of the will of the community. My thanks for whatever you have done so far to express the sentiment of the community. However you need to do a lot, lot more if you are going to bring true representation and authenticity to your public position. Its time to step up Kevin because everyone in your electorate expects it of you. Please act more straonly to oppose unconventional gas mining!
Thank you on behalf of my grandchildren
I really hope that you’re actions will bring us hope and give us a fighting chance to stop CSG
