Federal member for Page Kevin Hogan has welcomed the Government’s announcement it will introduce Country of Origin Food labelling.
“This is an issue I have been lobbying Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce and Assistant Health minister Fiona Nash,” he said.
“In the wake of the Frozen Berry Hepatitis A outbreak, consumers rightly want to know where their food is coming from. Now for the first time, consumers will have clear, consistent and easy-to-understand Country of Origin Food labelling.”
“This is great news for our local farmers who produce clean and green food.”
Mr Hogan said the Government is working industry groups to ensure the changes are practical, with the intention of implementing both an image and words that can be clearly read and understood.
“Australian produce and food processing is world class. The Government is determined to introduce changes that will make it easier for consumers to seek out and buy Australian grown and processed food,” he said.
Mr Hogan spoke in Parliament early this week calling for Country of Origin Food labelling, and later asked a question in Question Time of Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce.
