Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today announced a $15,000 grant to the Northern Rivers Dirty Wheels Mountain Bike Club.
The grant is for the completion of Stage 1 of the Duck Creek Mountain Bike Park in Alstonville. Work will include the construction of an onsite carpark and an upgrade of about 35 metres of the existing driveway to an all-weather gravel access.
“Mountain bike riding is a growing sport, but there are no legal public mountain bike facilities, which mean riders have to travel at least an hour outside our area,” Mr Hogan said.
“When complete, this facility will provide opportunities for people to ride locally on quality trails, attracting even more riders.”
The club currently has about 85 members.
“Projects under the Stronger Communities Program, like this one, are selected by a community consultation committee that assist with identifying potential projects,” Mr Hogan said.
