The Hill Climb at the Grafton Sporting Car Club‘s IHHHHMountain View racing track has to be resurfaced. It needs to do this to accreditation to hold National and State Championships.
The tracks were last resurfaced in the early 1990s and now have numerous cracks.
“This is why I secured a grant of $178,000 to ensure the club retains its accreditation with the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport to hold national and state events, including the NSW Hill Climb every June long-weekend,” the Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said.
“The track, which has also previously hosted the Australian National Hill Climb, holds about 12 events a year attracting drivers and spectators from far afield.
“Ensuring that the 985 metres of track can hold these events is crucial to attracting visitors to our community who spend money in our local shops and other businesses.”
Grafton Sporting Car Club President Graham Merry said the grant meant “the very life of the club.”
“I’m not sure what we would have done if not for the grant. We had to resurface the track which would have meant trying to fundraise in the community, but it is a lot of money.”
