Federal member for Page Kevin Hogan today announced $350,000 in funding for Jarjum Aboriginal Pre-school for its literacy and numeracy programmes.
“This is great news for Jarjum, its students and parents, and will help Close the Gap between our Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities,” Mr Hogan said.
The Pre-school was concerned that it would miss out on the additional funding for the next two-and-a-half years following the introduction of the Federal Government $4.8 billion Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS).
However, when their concerns were raised with Mr Hogan he immediately started lobbying his ministerial colleagues.
“Jarjum provides a crucial service to our Indigenous children. I will always fight for the best outcomes for all our community. I may not always win, but I will always go into bat for what is right for our community,” Mr Hogan said.
“I even took the opportunity to take the Assistant health minister Fiona Nash to Jarjum during her recent visit to Lismore to see firsthand the wonderful programme the pre-school delivers for our children.”
Jarjum Preschool provides a food and transport program as well as a screening program which links in with other services to ensure children don’t get left behind.
