Tropical Fruits is the largest LGBTIQ organisation in Regional Australia and is based in Lismore. Their annual New Years Eve event provides a $10 million boost to our local economy.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan has announced $9,000 to build a new picnic shelter and additional art space at their clubhouse in South Lismore.
“Every year this events brings thousands of people from across the country to our community, filling our motels and spending money in our businesses,” Mr Hogan said.
“This funding will provide a social, educational and recreational space for the members, staff and volunteers.
“Tropical Fruits are working to make this space a community hub and this funding will go a long way to making that happen.”
“The space will be used all year round, including the Tropical Fruits New Year’s Eve events, which is the largest economic contributor to the region at that time of the year.”
This funding has been provided through the Round 6 of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.
