Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan has today written to the consumer watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
“Today I asked the ACCC to investigate why petrol prices in regional areas are currently much higher compared to city prices. Regional areas are not sharing in the windfall of falling global oil prices,” Mr Hogan said.
“The average fuel price in Sydney today on the NRMA website is $1.12 a litre for unleaded fuel. In Casino it’s $1.389, $1.399 in Ballina, $1.355 in Lismore and $1.337 in Grafton.”
“According to the Australian Institute of Petroleum figures, we should only be paying about $1.18 a litre,” Mr Hogan said.
“Regional fuel buyers are paying $15.00 extra on an average tank and I would like the ACCC to tell us why”
