Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today presented his community petition to CSIRO during their consultation session in Lismore.
“More than 2,000 people signed the petition, calling for the height of future floods to be reduced by 1-2 metres across the whole catchment,” Mr Hogan said.
“This includes modelling a scenario that includes options to hold back, slow down or divert floodwater”.
“This is about keeping our community safe. We need to protect our homes, our businesses, and our families. Reducing flood risk also supports mental health, lowers insurance costs, and gives our region a real future.”
CSIRO is currently holding community consultations across the region using a new hydrodynamic tool to assess future flood scenarios across the Richmond River catchment.
Mr Hogan encouraged residents to continue having their say.
