Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today announced a grant to install solar panels and other green-energy devices at the Lismore Basketball Stadium.
“Our community is very aware of the need to reduce our carbon footprint and I am very happy to announce this grant which will reduce the footprint of the Basketball Stadium and importantly also reduce its running costs,” he said.
“The Lismore Basketball Association is a community group so every dollar saved in energy bills goes back into the sport, benefiting our local basketball players and ensure the ongoing viability of the sport in Lismore.”
The grant of more than $12,000 will be used to install a Grid Connected Solar System with the possibility of a battery storage system, Solar Hot Water and Drop Hammer fans at either end of the stadium to control airflow and heat – essential for year round use of the stadium.
Every light at the stadium – inside and out – will also be replaced with low-energy lighting.
“Projects under the Stronger Communities Program, like this one, are selected by a community consultation committee that assist with identifying potential projects,” Mr Hogan said.
“The greening and cooling of the popular Basketball stadium will provide an important boost for our local community, delivering lower operating costs and a healthier environment.”
