Federal member for Page Kevin Hogan today announced 13 Green Army projects to be rolled out across the Northern Rivers and Clarence Valley in the programs second round of projects.
“In addition to the 13 new Green Army projects I am announcing today, we have another four other projects which are already up and running. This means Page has one of the highest number of Green Army projects in Australia,” he said
“The Green Army provides opportunities for young Australians aged 17-24 years to gain training and experience in environmental and conservation fields and explore careers in conservation management, while participating in projects that generate real benefits for the Australian environment.”
Green Army projects to be rolled out soon in Page include:
- Enhancing Biodiversity of the Big Scrub, Stage 3
- Enhancing Biodiversity of the Big Scrub, Stage 4
- Koala Habitat Restoration in Lismore LGA, Stage 3
- Koala Habitat Restoration in Lismore LGA, Stage 4
- Richmond River Riparian Restoration Project
- High Conservation Vegetation Restoration in the Clarence Valley, Stage 3
- High Conservation Vegetation Restoration in the Clarence Valley, Stage 4
- Assisting Coastal Corridor enhancement in Northern NSW, Stage 3
- Rainforest and River Restoration in the Lower Clarence, Stage 1
- Rainforest and River Restoration in the Lower Clarence, Stage 2
- Rainforest and River Restoration in the Lower Clarence, Stage 3
- Assisting Coastal Corridor enhancement in North East of NSW
- Assisting Coastal Corridor enhancement in North East of NSW, Stage 3
“Young people in Page who are interested in joining the Green Army will now have the opportunity to be a part of one of these projects and help our community deliver important local conservation outcomes,” Mr Hogan said.
“The Green Army has been an incredible success story for both the environment and those involved. All participants have received training and many already have jobs lined up for when their project finishes.”
Combined with those announced in round one, 548 Green Army projects have now been announced across Australia.

“Applications are also now open for community organisations, environment groups and local councils in Page to come forward with new projects for Round 3 of the Green Army.”
“Green Army project activities could involve restoring and protecting native habitat, weeding, revegetation, cleaning up waterways, creeks and rivers, fencing, gully remediation, preventing erosion, protecting and conserving heritage places and values, or monitoring and surveying on Indigenous and non-Indigenous lands.”
“We welcome applications for projects that will support practical environment and conservation activities in our region.”
Applications for Round 3 Green Army projects are now open until 17 March 2015.
