Federal member for Page Kevin Hogan has welcomed the opening of the new GP clinic in Coraki and the provision of other allied health services in the mid-Richmond as well as in Evans Head.
“I have been working with these communities and the North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN) to provide these health services and I am glad they are now being delivered,” he said.
The new Maria Clinic in Coraki will start as a part-time service, building up to a full-time as the practice grows.
It will be operated by Dr Aung Aye with opening hours of Tuesday and Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Outside of these hours, residents can call 6662 1811.
“The Maria Clinic is a well-established and respected clinic in Casino offering a range of medical services to that community and new Federal Government funding has allowed them to expand to Coraki,” Mr Hogan said.
In addition to the new clinic, the Coraki and Evans Head communities can now access the services of a psychologist, speech therapist and occupational therapists thanks to a new agreement reached between the Federal Government and NCPHN.
“I would particularly like to acknowledge Chris Clark and all the staff at the Primary health network in securing these services,” Mr Hogan said.
“The way these allied health services are offered has changed and will benefit both communities.”
“Contracted speech pathology services started in both communities earlier this month, providing services four days a week, offering more occasions of service than were provided last financial year under the old structure.
“A psychologist is also now available in Evans Head as part of the Healthy Minds Programme.
“This is a very good outcome for these much-needed services and the new structure means they are sustainable.”
Healthy Minds provides free mental health services to people who would not otherwise be able to access psychological treatment. To be eligible, the person must have a government health care card or be suffering financial hardship. Referrals can be made to Healthy Minds on 02 6627 3396.
