FEDERAL member for Page Kevin Hogan will tomorrow present Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter crew chief Roger Fry with a National Medal in recognition of his service to organisation.
“I congratulate Roger for his long service to our community. Many people will know Roger personally, others may not, but there are only a few whose lives he hasn’t touched in some way by his role with the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Service,” Mr Hogan said.
The National Medal recognises long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations who risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in law enforcement or in times of emergency or natural disaster.
“Roger is one of those typical Aussie heroes who prefers to fly under the radar, but it is important to recognise the work he has done for our community and the lives he has helped save,” Mr Hogan said.
Roger, who began his career with the Australian Air Force at the age of seventeen working as a safety officer, joined the Westpac aircrew on the Northern Rivers in 1996 and was promoted to Crew Chief two years later.
Over its history the rescue helicopter has clocked up more than 7400 missions, averaging six to seven missions a week. Its on-duty crews at the Lismore Helicopter Base are on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
