Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan and Leader of The Nationals The Hon. David Littleproud, have today called on the Labor Government to speed up its support for our flood impacted community.
It was reported that the State Government have put $500 million to fund voluntary buybacks, land swaps and house raising scheme and is waiting for the Federal Government to co-contribute.
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said the Labor Government have been too slow in agreeing to co-fund the $1 billion flood package with the State Government.
“The Labor Government needs to work as if it is their own mother and father who are not back in their homes,” Mr Hogan said.
“Community is anxiously awaiting the Federal governments support to fund voluntary buybacks, land swaps and house raising scheme.”
“This cannot wait until the budget as we need to move quickly so people can make decisions about their homes and property.”
Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud said there needs to be a common-sense solution to help our community.
“I am visiting the Lismore area as part of my National Listening Tour to speak to locals and families on the ground about their desperate need for help,” Mr Littleproud said.
“We know this community has already been through incredible hardship, following the floods. We want to work with the community and with the Federal Government to reach a common sense solution where everyone benefits.”
Mr Hogan also said he will continue to put pressure on the Labor Government.
“It’s unacceptable that this funding has not yet been confirmed, meaning that the process for house buy backs, land swaps and house raising is still on hold.”
“Our community needs a decision on this as soon as possible, and I will continue to lobby the Labor Government to match this funding.”
