SHADOW MINISTER FOR FINANCIAL SERVICES
DEPUTY MANAGER OF OPPOSITION BUSINESS
Labor wants your super ‘in the national interest’
Just weeks ago, Jim Chalmers was fundraising by promoting fears that your super could be at risk. Now, it turns out Labor’s trade minister has been pitching your super as part of their trade deals with the United States.
Shadow Minister for Financial Services, Kevin Hogan, expressed his dismay at the reports about the Minister for Trade’s remarks that super funds have a responsibility to consider investments in US Lamb ‘in the national interest.’
“It’s now clear that the biggest threat to your super is the Labor party. The Prime Minister has already talked about the idea of super being a ‘National Asset’, now we have another Minister saying your super should be spent in the ‘National Interest’.”
“Super is your money. It’s not Labor’s. Your super fund’s key responsibility is to invest in your best financial interests. This is enshrined in legislation through the best financial interest duty.
“Only the Coalition remain committed to this principle. Labor appears to have abandoned it so they can use your super as a piggy bank to fund their agenda. They cannot and should not be trusted with your money.”
“If Labor wanted to promote investment in lamb, you would think they would start with Australia’s local industry. Instead, they’ve banned live exports and are promoting super to invest in US lamb.”
“The only escape from this madness is to get rid of this Government.”
