Labor Should Release Live Trade Report
Shadow Minister for Trade and Tourism, Kevin Hogan, said Labor should release its Independent Panel Report on live sheep trade, with reports today saying its authors had never taken a position on phasing out the exports despite having worked for animal activist groups.
“The live export trade is an important export industry. Labor is hiding this report from the industry, despite the 3,000 jobs that are created in regional and rural Australia,” Mr Hogan said.
“It is outrageous Labor has kept this report a secret and has ignored the fact that demand for live sheep is increasing – sine 2021-22 the trade has increased by 41 per cent.
“Labor is ideological and reckless in its position on an industry that is worth $85 million and supports not only producers, but shearers, truck drivers, fodder suppliers, livestock agents, farmers, producers and their families.
“If this phase out is a good decision, why doesn’t Labor release its report rather than keeping these people in limbo?”
