COMMUNITY PETITION TO TAKE 1-2 METRES OFF A FLOOD
This petition is asking the Government to model a scenario where a flood event is 1-2 metres lower than it otherwise would be. This needs to include options that hold back/slow down/divert flood water.
We need action to keep us safe, protect our homes, our businesses and our families. If we lower flood risk, it improves mental health, protects us financially, helps with insurance, and gives our region a future.
We have a chance to make this happen. The CSIRO has a new hydrodynamic tool that can model options to reduce the level of future floods.
We are calling on the Federal and State Labor Governments to model a scenario that takes 1-2 metres off a flood in the Richmond River catchment.
This would cover the entire catchment – from Bungawalbin Creek through Coraki, Eden Creek through Kyogle, Richmond River through Casino, and Terania, Leycester and Wilsons through Lismore onto Ballina.
