Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today officially opened the $2.5 million Clarence Valley Regional Airport Upgrade Project.
“This is great news for our community and local businesses as it delivers a modern regional airport that will attract tourism to the Clarence Valley,” he said.
“This will boost our local businesses and local economy.
“Many of our residents and tourists will also reap the rewards of this upgrade, including a larger baggage handling area and additional parking bay for public transport.”
“The upgrade includes strengthening and reshaping the runway and apron, a hardstand area for rotary wing aircraft, and an extension of the existing terminal building.”
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said improving connectivity in our regions was essential to creating more jobs and delivering better services outside of our capital cities.
“This project has increased the reliability of passenger services between Grafton and Sydney, with more than $1 million invested by the Coalition Government,” Minister Nash said.
“Together with Kevin Hogan, I aim to build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and providing the best connectivity to our regional centres is essential to that commitment.”
Mayor of Clarence Valley Council Jim Simmons said the Council’s $1.38 million commitment to the project was a significant investment in the community.
“This project has created 25 jobs, while the upgrade will also benefit the estimated 18,000 people each year who will use this facility,” Cr Simmons said.
“Many people travel to this region to relax and recuperate, while our local farmers and producers need good connections to ensure they can meet with buyers and sellers. I’m delighted to mark this anniversary and I am looking forward to the benefits this upgrade will bring for years to come.”
